Aitana Bonmatí Career

Aitana Bonmat joined the Juvenil-Cadet, a developmental division designed to foster young female talent, and thus her journey within the FC Barcelona ranks began. This occurred in 2013, a year in which she would triumph in both league games and the prestigious Copa Catalunya. These early triumphs laid the foundation for her trajectory inside the Barcelona family, like the first chords of a beautiful song.

Her time at Barcelona B served as a growth-promoting crucible that pushed her in the direction of the coveted spot on the main team. Despite her few preseason outings, the 2015–16 campaign would permanently inscribe her name in the club’s history. With 14 goals, Aitana Bonmat proved her mettle by playing a crucial part in securing the Segunda Division, Group III championship. She was honored by being promoted to Barcelona’s first team at the end of the season by manager Xavi Llorens.

Aitana Bonmat made her Barcelona debut during the quarterfinals of the 2016 Copa de la Reina, where she displayed her abilities by helping Bárbara Latorre defeat Real Sociedad. As the story of the tournament developed, Bonmat’s replacement brought new nuances to the symphony. Notably, her participation in the semifinal game against Levante, even in the closing moments of the contest, helped Barcelona to a resounding 3-0 victory. But despite her sincere efforts, the final showdown against Atletico Madrid would end in a loss—a 3-2 defeat.

The scene changed when she was called up to the senior national team by coach Jorge Vilda in November 2017. This acknowledgement served as proof of her skill on the field. It was a turning point in Aitana Bonmat’s journey when she had the chance to make her international debut for Spain in the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying matches. She replaced Amanda Sampedro in the 53rd minute of Spain’s match against Austria, marking her first debut for the senior national team.

Spain’s victory over Costa Rica was announced in the big stadium of the 2023 World Cup, and Aitana Bonmat added her personal touch by scoring Spain’s second goal. She continued her outstanding performance against Switzerland with a second goal and an assist, contributing to Spain’s incredible 5-1 victory that advanced them to the quarterfinals.
