Hoff spent a semester at sea with the University of Virginia at the same time. She was able to visit twelve nations in less than four months as a result. As part of that experience, Hoff shot footage and created a short documentary at the South African National Biodiversity Institute in Cape Town. She also attended a summit on environmental policy that was held in Chennai.
In September 2010, Hoff joined WHAG-TV News/NBC 25 as a reporter and stand-in anchor/producer to launch her journalism career.
