The WBA has mandated a title battle between Baumgardner, the undisputed champion of the division, and Hyun Mi Choi, according to BoxingScene.com. Choi filed a medical exemption for the originally scheduled battle last autumn, which resulted in her being demoted to ‘Champion in Recess’.
The unbeaten former champion is currently in front of the pack to compete for both her previous belt and all the chips.
Choi’s injury prevented her from entering the ring when she was scheduled to face Baumgardner, who was the official challenger, according to a decision from the WBA Championship Committee that Boxing Scene was able to get. “As a result, [Baumgardner] was offered the opportunity to compete against [Elhem]m Mekhaled for the vacant title in February.
