Delicious American Express. Month Out will soon be here, and with it will come an afternoon gathering hosted by one of the country’s top dessert stars.
The award-winning pastry chef Anna Polyviou is hosting a special Hellenic High Tea at The Langham, Sydney on Sunday, May 7. But on that particular day, Anna’s mother, Eugina Polyviou, would be joining her and her outstanding team as a special visitor.
The meal for the day is a medley of savoury and sweet high tea delicacies that celebrate Greece’s flavour and Anna’s proudly Greek ancestry. Thanks to the cooperation of Anna’s mother, who also shares a love of cooking and baking, the extensive menu of little bits captures the warmth of family cooking and baking at its finest.
The mother-daughter team will use the outdoor cooking stations in the eating area to their maximum advantage as everything will be homemade and created by hand. The slow-cooked lamb will be roasted on the on-site rotisserie, while Eugina will demonstrate how to prepare fresh haloumi, and fresh spanakopita will be rolled and baked.
In this meal, Polyviou promises, “you will taste the best of both worlds of Greek cuisine, sweet and savoury, with the Anna Polyviou touch.” Other specialties from the day will include the traditional keftedes roll, crab with salmon roe, and tarama tart. Not to mention the lamb pita, tzatziki with pickled cucumber, spanakopita pie, and many other dishes that come next. It’s safe to assume that guests won’t go home hungry.
“You will find fresh taramasalata made by my mother, koupes made using an old family recipe, and spanakopita with the fresh pastry stretched so thin, packed with flavour,” Anna explains of the planned meal. Since desserts are Anna’s area of expertise, there won’t be a shortage of sweet selections throughout the day. They include the decadent galaktoboureko dessert made with semolina custard, the creamy rice pudding covered with salted caramel sauce and cinnamon loukoumades, and the Greek coffee-flavored macarons.
