Avery Anna News
Singer-songwriter Avery Anna has always been inspired by the self-expression of writing and music. She grew up in a household of four in Flagstaff, Arizona. The 18-year-old tells Billboard, “I’ve been singing and writing in a journal for as long as I can remember.” “From that, songwriting developed.
When I was small, my grandfather would play Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash as I sang with him. My love for the country began there, and I was reared with it. Naturally, as time went on, I grew to love so many more artists, including Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood.
Anna will release her seven-song, big-label debut EP, Mood Swings, via Warner Music Nashville on Friday, October 7. Oddly enough, the journey that led up to the discharge started in her bathtub. The natural acoustics of bathrooms are well known, and in October 2020, Anna recorded a TikTok video of herself singing “Say Something” by A Great Big World while she was in the bathtub.
On TikTok, the video eventually received 10 million views. Matt Thomas, a member of the country band Parmalee, was one of the viewers who showed the video to writer, producer, and manager David Fanning. Anna was contacted via Instagram by Fanning and his 33 Creative management business manager/partner Tina Crawford, who then signed Anna to a management and production deal.
The song “Narcissist” by Anna was played next, and its cutting lyrics read, “And I know you’ll get over me/ But can you get over yourself?” The song, which she co-wrote with Fanning, Ben Williams, and Andy Sheridan, peaked at No. 22 on the Hot Country Songs chart in June after peaking at No. 4 on Billboard’s Country Digital Single Sales chart and No. 15 on the Digital Song Sales chart in March.
Since then, she has accelerated past professional milestones, and in late June she announced a major label agreement with Warner Music Nashville. She debuted on the Grand Ole Opry on September 30. She also completed her high school education in May, oh yeah. Billboard interviewed Anna about writing Mood Swings, her tour necessities, and what she likes to bring on the road.
