Student Fay Wallace has received a prize named in honour of Professor Stuart Baird, who served as the dean of the Glasgow Faculty of Podiatric Medicine under the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Since 2017, Glasgow Caledonian University has given out the Professor Baird Award, which honours the best podiatry student overall. After being given the honour, Fay said:
The Professor Baird Award in Association with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons for the best overall student makes me feel honoured and appreciative. It was a special way for me to conclude my four years as a university student and meant a lot to me. As a new student, I’m interested in learning more about the opportunities the College has to offer.
Professor Stuart Baird is a former dean of the faculty of podiatric medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, an adjunct professor at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, and an emeritus professor at Glasgow Caledonian University.
Professor Baird held the position of Professor of Podiatric Medicine at Glasgow Caledonian University before he retired. He had a particular interest in diabetes and how it affects the foot and lower limbs. He continued to work as a clinician in the interdisciplinary team at the Diabetic Foot Clinic, Centre for Diabetes and Metabolism, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, in addition to being an academic.
Prior to coming back to Glasgow Caledonian University in 1995, Professor Baird worked in a number of academic institutions both domestically and overseas for more than 40 years in an academic capacity. In India, the Middle East, Africa, and the Far East, he has given lectures and presented programmes on the management of diabetic foot illness.
He is well-regarded by his profession and colleagues for his dedication to Podiatric Medicine in the UK and globally. He is recognised both nationally and internationally for his work in the fields of diabetes and diabetic foot disease.
