Announcements of the state funeral for comedian Barry Humphries, aka Dame Edna Everage, have been released.
At Sydney Opera House, Barry Humphries will receive a state funeral. The late comedian, widely known for his alter ego Dame Edna Everage, passed away last month at the age of 89 as a result of surgical complications.
Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns has now declared that Humphries’ “remarkable life and enduring legacy” will be honoured on December 15 at the illustrious location.
A statement read: “The Sydney Opera House is a suitable venue for the service which will honour the extraordinary life and lasting impact of the beloved Australian personality. It is an internationally recognised home of performance, arts, and culture.”
Given the venue’s role in Australian arts, culture, and entertainment, it was said to be “a appropriate place for what promises to be a memorable send-off. The statement’s final line said, “His passing marks the end of an era in Australian entertainment.”
Anthony Albanese, the prime minister of Australia, stated that it is “pleased” for the administration to be working on a tribute to the “beloved entertainer”. The Australian Government is happy to collaborate with the New South Wales Government to create a State Memorial to remember the life and legacy of this adored artist, he said in a statement.
A week after his passing, Tim Storrier, a lifelong friend and artist, hosted a private funeral service for Barry Humphries at his Bowral estate in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. The Australian claims that the guests were only informed of the funeral 24 hours in advance.
“It was a small affair, just family and close friends,” remarked filmmaker Bruce Beresford. It was incredibly nice and touching. Everyone was either connected to someone or a close friend.
