In the DA’s office as senior assistant district attorney for policy and strategic initiatives is Berit Berger, another former federal prosecutor. In order to “guarantee that every prosecutor recognises the great responsibility of their position and has a place to turn for ethical counsel,” Rocah established the new job of chief ethics officer, which she will fill.
A zero-tolerance approach for deliberate prosecutorial wrongdoing has been pledged by the incoming DA, along with new guidelines for how prosecutors should cooperate—or not cooperate—with police officers who are the subject of investigations. Berger most recently served as executive director of the Center for the Promotion of Public Integrity, a collaboration between the Columbia Law School and the New York City Department of Investigation that supports local anti-corruption initiatives.
Lila Kirton is a senior team member who has worked in the office before. She will act as the chief diversity, equality, and inclusion officer in addition to being the executive assistant district attorney for intergovernmental relations and criminal justice programmes. Daniel McKenna, a recently retired FBI agent, was selected by Rocah to lead the investigation into cold-case homicides around the county.
At Westchester, McKenna served as a supervisory special agent and was in charge of the Safe Streets Task Force, which collaborated with officers from various police departments in Westchester. He oversaw the investigation into Valerie Reyes’s kidnapping and murder in New Rochelle, which led to the capture of Reyes’ ex-boyfriend, Javier da Silva Rojas.
Wade Hardy, a retired White Plains police officer and the first vice president of the Westchester Rockland Guardians Association serves as the deputy head of investigations.
