Blake Grupe Wikipedia, Wiki, NFL Draft, Stats, Contract, Jersey, Size – Between two surprising contests, a rookie kicker for the New Orleans Saints beat the Kansas City Chiefs with the game-winning attempt.
Security stopped Blake Grupe twice despite the Saints player nailing the game-winning shot.
Even though Blake Grupe made the game-winning kick for the NFL, people mistook him for a supporter. Against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in a preseason game, the 24-year-old made his professional debut for the New Orleans Saints.
Grupe maintained composure while the game was on the line and made a game-winning field goal of 31 yards as time expired to give his team a 26-24 victory. In front of ecstatic Saints supporters in the Superdome, he celebrated with all of his teammates.
Grupe was overjoyed, but as he attempted to leave the stadium by the player’s exit, security mistakenly thought he was a fan. That was the second problem he encountered; earlier, stadium security had asked the placekicker for documentation proving his right to be on the sidelines.
Grupe tweeted about his exciting day, writing: “Step 1: get stopped as you enter the field before the game since you don’t have credentials. Step 2: Score the winning goal. Step 3: Attempting to leave the player exit and being stopped by security who mistook me for a fan Stay modest. Thankful. Great team win!”
Grupe became an undrafted free agent and signed with the Saints in April. At the University of Notre Dame, he made 14 out of his 19 field goal attempts with success in a single season. He has been competing against Will Lutz, who has been a member of the team since 2016, but is coming off of his worst season.
Just 23 of 31 field goals were made by Lutz, a career-low 74.2 percent. Grupe will certainly give Lutz and New Orleans something to think about if he continues to make kicks while under pressure. Coach Dennis Allen of the Saints is already thrilled with the rookie.
Glad we won because winning in this league is everything, and winning in the preseason is crucial, added Allen. “I was pleased that our team was able to do that. I was pleased to see Grupe receive the chance to kick in that circumstance and succeed.
The Saints signed several free agents over the summer except Grupe. They hired quarterback Derek Carr, who had a touchdown pass against the Chiefs on his first series.
During his lone drive, Carr completed six of eight passes for 70 yards, ending the 12-play, 80-yard drive with a touchdown pass to Keith Kirkwood of 4 yards. “I simply feel renewed. I feel revitalized. And it felt pretty fantastic to wear that uniform on and walk around as a Saint,” he stated following the game.
“I was ecstatic because now I could roam around and work on my projects in a real-world setting. Because those are the most authentic reps it gets, it was satisfying. They may, for instance, hit me outside.
