Clara Francis News
A documentary about the death of their daughter, according to actor Jason Watkins and his wife Clara Francis, they hope will support other grieving families and increase awareness of sepsis. The ITV movie detailed the tragic life of Maude, who passed away from the illness in 2011 at the age of two and a half. Watkins said their documentary was a part of “trying to make things better” on the BBC Radio 4 Today show.
On Thursday, the programme Jason & Clara: In Memory of Maudie was broadcast. “I didn’t know other people who had lost children, and it is unusual for a person to lose a child,” Francis said in a statement to Radio 4. “By producing the documentary, my goal—or one of our goals—was to discuss that emotion and, if somebody watches it, to make them think, “Oh God, I’m not going crazy because that’s how I feel.”
Francis claimed that she wanted to reduce the stigma associated with talking about child loss. It’s the most lonely thing to live with, the sadness of your child, she added, “even though we went through it as a marriage and a family and were I’m surrounded by incredible pals. The pair has pushed for improved knowledge of sepsis and its symptoms. According to Watkins, who has been in TV programmes like The Crown and W1A, diagnosing and treating sepsis are still challenges frequently.
“As a parent who has lost a child, it is disturbing to think that it might happen tomorrow at an inappropriate hospital in the UK despite our campaigning and efforts. This documentary is an effort to improve things because we already know it will continue to be a problem given how pervasive it is.” In the documentary, viewers saw Watkins travel to London’s King’s College Hospital to meet Professor Akash Deep, who directs a programme to instruct medical professionals in recognising warning signs.
The movie also featured the actor and his wife going through treatment and meeting other parents who had lost children, and it followed the couple as they got ready to at the flat where Maude was born and died, leave.
The couple also talked about how they learned that their daughter had passed suddenly, what happened in the days that followed, and how Francis’ friend had retained hold of Maude’s items because she couldn’t bear to put them away.
