Paul Winter, 42, a native of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, was murdered in the second degree by Cristobal Palacio, 46, who was convicted guilty of the crime in October 2008.
At Palacio’s residence in Kendall, Miami, Florida, Mr. Winter passed away in front of his wife Jennifer and her twin children.
Palacio was also found guilty of child abuse since his kids had seen the shooting.
Second-degree murder in Florida is punishable by a minimum of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Palacio shot Mr. Winter, a graphic artist, six times, twice in the back.
A year before to the shooting, Mr. Winter had relocated to Miami and wed his killer’s ex-wife.
Palacio asserted that he fired in self-defense because he thought Mr. Winter was about to shoot him.
