Like my late husband, who also came from a difficult financial upbringing, I am motivated to attempt to ease the way a little for those who follow. We made the decision to begin the process in the late 1970s rather than waiting until we joined the “dearly departed.” The voyage has been rather long!
Why has Scripps Clinic’s orthopedic care become so significant that you’ve given it your name?
Our earliest donations, like those of many others, came as ‘grateful patients’ after Clifford Colwell, MD, provided Donald with excellent care. Steven Copp, MD, the director of the orthopedics department, is now in charge of my care.
We became aware that we needed to address research-related concerns as we observed varied demands in the sector over time. The best method to do it seemed to be to establish the Shiley Center for Orthopaedic Research and Education.
We are now so close to finding a solution for how to grow and transplant cartilage-like material thanks to Darryl D’Lima, MD, PhD. It will be a historic accomplishment once it is accomplished.
