Dave Roever Story

He had no desire to go to war at all. He got his draught notification at the height of the Vietnam War. He enlisted in the Navy instead of the infantry because he didn’t want to serve in the infantry, and in Vietnam, he was a Brown Water Black Beret riverboat gunner.

David was charred beyond recognition eight months into his term of duty in Vietnam when a phosphorous grenade he was about to lob exploded in his fingers. He spent fourteen months in the hospital as a result of the incident, undergoing multiple significant operations. The miracle of his life and survival.

He is a great communicator and has given speeches in a range of venues, including businesses, men’s and youth conventions, public schools, and military sites. Dave frequently appears on chat shows on national television. He founded and continues to be active in missions in Vietnam and other countries.

He discusses topics important to his audience and offers actionable solutions by using examples from his own life. Dave crafts a story of strength, devotion, and survival that touches and alters those who hear him. He frequently draws from his combat experiences of loneliness, peer pressure, disfigurement, and suffering, as well as life’s successes. His faith and the positive relationships he has with his parents, wife, kids, and grandchildren serve as the cornerstone of his hope.

The Department of the Navy addressed its error by presenting Dave with his Purple Heart and several additional service medals 34 years after his wounds. He is specially qualified to speak to the requirements of military members because of his service, injury, and rehabilitation during the war. He is frequently asked to address military personnel stationed at home as well as those who are serving overseas in Iraq and other places.

In appreciation of Dave’s amazing life and contributions, he received an honorary doctorate in May 2005. The Roever Evangelistic Association (REA) and Roever Educational Assistance Programs (REAP), both non-profit organisations with headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, were founded by Dave Roever. He also serves as their chairman and president.
