Edgar Tabares, a 9-year-old WBC Muay Thai International Champion, started training in martial arts. Taekwondo was taken up by the Mexicans as self-defense against bullies in the schoolyard. After only a few years of training, Tabares’ family experienced financial difficulties, making it impossible for him to continue his studies.
The little Mexican was fortunate to have a Muay Thai coach for an uncle. With his uncle, Tabares first learned boxing and kickboxing later switching to Muay Thai. The young man developed a special interest in Thailand’s national sport and made the decision that he wanted to compete professionally. But originally, his mother didn’t agree with his choice.

Edgar Tabares News
At ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III on Prime Video, ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon meticulously destroyed WBC Muay Thai International Champion Edgar Tabares to maintain his supremacy in the division. On Friday, May 5, at the Colorado 1stBank Centre to a packed house, “The Iron Man” halted the Mexican striker with a left elbow in the second round of their co-main event contest.
The result was so impressive that ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong gave the Thai megastar a generous performance bonus of $100,000. Rodtang made his presence known after relaxing into the opening round with a series of punches that attracted Tabares’ attention.
But the challenger was ready for the flyweight fight. Tabares started using spinning elbows to avoid Rodtang’s signature push-kick catches. The strategy caught Rodtang’s eye, but the defending king maintained in attacking forcefully in the second round, supporting Tabares with potent punch combos. Midway through the frame, Tabares attempted another spinning elbow, but one was too many.
Rodtang avoided the blow and elbowed Tabares in the jaw, knocking him to the ground. At 1:34 into the round, the 29-year-old was unable to respond to the referee’s count, and the fight was stopped. Rodtang’s record now stands at an amazing 271-42 thanks to the victory, which was his fifth defense of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title.
The Thai superstar attacked Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, the newly crowned ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion, in his post-fight speech while being interviewed by ONE Commentator Mitch Chilson.
