Frank Pesce News

Character actor Frank Pesce, who starred in “Top Gun,” “Midnight Run,” and “Miami Vice” in addition to the first two “Beverly Hills Cop” films, passed away on February 6 as a result of dementia problems. He was 75.

Pesce, who was born in New York City in 1946, was friends with people like Sylvester Stallone, Tony Danza, and Robert Forster. Pesce, who is well-known for his wide smile and eccentric nature, made his on-screen debut in 1976 as a guest star on “Police Story.” He had appearances on several other television shows over his career, including “The Master,” “Kojak,” “Knight Rider,” “Blue Thunder,” “The Greatest American Hero,” and “Matlock.”

The Sylvester Stallone movies “Rocky” and “Paradise Alley,” as well as Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer’s blockbusters “Flashdance” and “Top Gun,” all cast Pesce in supporting roles. Tammy Scher, Pesce’s girlfriend, said in a statement to Variety, “I met Frank at a really low period in my life. He was right when he said he had saved me. He was unlike anyone I’d ever met. Frank was always fascinating, amusing, and a force greater than life or any literary figure. Unafraid to approach anyone and strike up a conversation. Celebrities liked to be around him since he was an expert on both music and cinema.

Pesce co-wrote the screenplay for George Gallo’s 1991 film “29th Street” with James Franciscus, based on Pesce’s own early life experience as a New York City lottery winner. In the film, Pesce played Vito, his older brother, while Anthony LaPaglia played Frank and Dan Aiello played Vito’s father.

To say Frank Pesce was unique would be a terrible understatement, according to the movie’s producer David Permut. Our common love and enthusiasm for movies. He asserted to have seen more films than both Leonard Maltin and Roger Ebert put together. Pesce leaves behind Scher, his brother Vito Pesce, his nieces Vanessa and Danielle Pesce, and his sister-in-law Catherine. On February 18, he will be laid to rest in New York at Saint Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.
