Fred Da Sam Lazaro News

Fred de Sam Lazaro, executive director of the “Under-Told Stories: Keeping International Stories in the News” project and correspondent for the PBS NewsHour, will be featured by the University of Michigan Wallace House Centre for Journalists as he takes a critical look at the world’s underreported events and awakens us to understand the daily concerns of far away people who are increasingly affecting our lives.

De Sam Lazaro, a 1989 Michigan Journalism Fellow (later known as the Knight-Wallace Journalism Fellowship), established Under-Told Stories in 2006. It is a journalism initiative that focuses on the effects of poverty and stories about the biggest challenges facing the world, such as the environment, access to food and water, and human rights.

Along with creating content for news outlets, Under-Told Stories works with teachers to educate pupils on the important problems of the day. The Wallace House’s former director, Charles R. Eisendrath, and his lifelong dedication to international journalism are honoured at this event as part of the Eisendrath Symposium.
