Freddy Ramírez Wikipedia, Wife, Wiki, Interview, USAD -: Following Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez’s self-inflicted shooting, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) conducted a press conference on Monday afternoon to provide an update.

Authorities and sources reported that Ramirez, 52, shot himself during what appeared to be a suicide attempt on Sunday after arriving in Tampa for a law enforcement conference.
Ramirez shot himself while he was stopped on the side of Interstate 75 in his automobile with his wife, according to two law enforcement officials.
After being transported to Tampa General Hospital, he underwent surgery and is now in a critical but stable condition, according to a statement from Miami-Dade police. According to a source familiar with the situation, he is anticipated to survive.
The shooting is being looked into by the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
In a brief statement released early on Monday, the Miami-Dade Police Department stated that they had been alerted by Tampa police that Ramirez had sustained a “critical injury.”
Miami-Dade police requested that people remember him in their prayers in a written statement.
For CBS News Miami, a senior law enforcement source involved with the investigation provided the following account of what happened before the shooting:
Ramirez and his wife were in Tampa for the Florida Sheriff Association’s summer meeting, which got underway on Sunday at the JW Marriott. Around 6:30 p.m., the pair left the conference’s welcoming event and proceeded outside the hotel, when an argument is said to have started.
The law enforcement source stated that a bystander claimed to have witnessed Ramirez making suicide threats.
The source informed CBS Miami that “a citizen saw him take out his gun and put it in his mouth.”
Ramirez and his wife were questioned by Tampa police after a bystander called them.
Both disagreed that Ramirez had made a suicide threat and since the call had been made anonymously, no witnesses were ready to talk to authorities.
Because of this, Tampa police decided against arresting Ramirez or using the state’s Baker Act to forcefully admit Ramirez to a mental health hospital for a period of 72 hours, which would have been the standard procedure if officers had reason to believe the subject posed a danger to themselves or others.
“There wasn’t enough evidence to do anything,” the insider claimed.
When Ramirez and his wife entered their room again, hotel staff requested them to leave and informed them that they were no longer permitted to stay at the Marriot.
Around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Ramirez pulled over to the side of I-75 in the Riverview neighborhood of Tampa and shot himself in the head as they were returning to Miami from the motel. Ramirez may lose eyesight in one eye, according to the source, while the full extent of his injury remains unknown.
The reason behind his suspected suicide attempt is unclear.
Ramirez declared two months ago that he and Miami Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava will both compete as Democrats for sheriff in the upcoming election.
2020 saw the appointment of Carlos Gimenez, a former Miami-Dade mayor, as police director.
Two years later, Ramirez was promoted by Levine Cava to acting chief of public safety, allowing him to manage Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the police force. Later, the role was given to him permanently.
The mayor’s office said in a written statement made public on Monday that she had traveled to Tampa to visit Director Ramirez and his family in the hospital.
She said, “Chief Ramirez is hospitalized and in critical but stable condition following a catastrophic injury in Tampa yesterday. “At this time, the only thing that matters is Chief Ramirez’s health, and I join his family, his friends, and his extended Miami-Dade County and Miami-Dade Police Department families in praying for his quick recovery.”
In support of Ramirez, the Miramar Police Department also released a statement.
The company posted on social media, “We come together sending positive energy and strength his way.” “May Director Ramirez find the strength and fortitude to get through this challenge, and may his recovery be quick and thorough.”
Stephanie Daniels, MDPD’s deputy director, has been appointed as acting chief of police.
