Gianno Caldwell News
In the Chicago mayoral election on Tuesday, progressive candidate Brandon Johnson defeated former CPS CEO Paul Vallas, although others have said that his policies are worse than those of outgoing Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Speaking about Johnson’s victory, Fox News’ Gianno Caldwell, whose young brother Christian was killed in the Windy City last year, called it “horrendous” for Chicago residents.
He claimed on “Your World” on Wednesday that “[this] to me was the signing of thousands of death certificates of people who don’t have to die because of the policies of which he’s advocated.” The police department, the police union, rather, has warned that many police officers would resign with his election on the line. “This is a guy who’s defunded the police, who’s advocated for that, who’s defended rioters and looters, who’s not thought about public safety,” the source said.
Democrats and Republicans, according to Caldwell, both thought Lightfoot’s leadership and policies were “horrendous,” but Johnson “stands to be worse than her.”
On his campaign website, Johnson lists a number of issues as objectives, including “public safety and police reform,” “environmental justice,” “gender equity,” and “education.” In order to reduce caseloads, he has also promised to promote 200 detectives from rank-and-file officers. He has also called for more city expenditure on affordable housing, schools, and mental health services in order to address the underlying causes of crime.
Additionally, he has advocated for the use of unarmed EMTs and social workers in place of armed police officers in some 911 calls.
According to figures from the Chicago Police Department, crime has continued to rise in the city, with total crime rising 42% year over year from January to April 2. Robberies have climbed by 15% while vehicle thefts have increased by 133%. However, homicides are down 15% from the previous year. According to Caldwell, his brother is “kickin’ in his grave at Brandon Johnson’s election.”
“Chicago, what in the world were you thinking? I don’t comprehend. Instead of only the South and West sides of Chicago, where it has historically occurred, crime has been committed all around the city. But our firms have departed downtown,” he said to anchor Neil Cavuto.
