Harlem Eubank News
The super-lightweight prospect is the cousin of championship candidate Chris Jnr. and the late Sebastian, his fellow competitor and best friend who tragically passed away in 2021. Moreover, he is Chris Snrnephew, .’s a two-weight world champion. Both his twin brother Peter and his father Simon were boxers and very much a part of the family business.
Harlem, 29, at first resisted going with them because he thought the pressure to live up to the Eubank name would be too much. Instead, he trained in karate as a child and was a talented footballer for Brighton & Hove Albion before turning to box at the age of 18.
According to Eubank, “I initially didn’t want to box because I didn’t want to be judged by anything my uncle Chris accomplished in the sport.” ‘I used to think there was no purpose in starting something when there was already so much success.
“I always tried to put my energy into sports, and eventually I turned back to boxing.” It wasn’t that I had fled from it, but I had not felt a pull towards it in my formative years. It was the most difficult thing I had ever attempted as soon as I started.
One participant said, “Starting it at 18 means you’re getting hammered in the face by older males, not tiny youngsters just starting out.” I have been drawn in by it ever since my first day at the gym, and I have never stopped striving to live up to that familial dynasty.
As Harlem’s father Simon witnessed the darker side of boxing, Eubank Sr. developed into one of the sport’s most recognisable faces and compelling characters. Simon fought professionally for eight years; the majority of his 27 fights took place in small hall events, and he retired in 1992 with a record of 20 losses and 7 victories.
The careers of the two brothers serve as an illustration of the vastly diverse roads that await any young fighter, with Eubank Snr. already holding the title of middleweight world champion at the time.
It without a doubt encourages you to work harder and think more critically. On the one hand, the game gives lots of rewards and glitter, but on the other, a lot of work and effort goes unappreciated. That is a dangerous game.
