What does Henry Ruggs do?

Ruggs ran the 40-yard sprint at the 2020 NFL Combine in 4.27 seconds, which was.08 seconds faster than the next-fastest performer that year and tied for the fourth-fastest time overall at the event since electronic timing began in 1999. Ruggs’ vertical leap of 42 inches at the 2020 combine was tied for second-best among wide receivers.

In the 2020 NFL Draft’s wide receiver class, Ruggs was chosen first overall. He was the first player selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the 12th overall pick after they relocated from Oakland earlier in the year.

Ruggs is the Raiders’ second first-round selection of an Alabama athlete in a row, following running back Josh Jacobs in 2019. On July 21, 2020, Ruggs signed a fully guaranteed, $16.67 million, four-year contract with a fifth-year team option.

On September 13, 2020, Ruggs made his NFL debut, and in the season opener against the Carolina Panthers, he made his first career reception. In Week 5’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Ruggs recorded his first 100-yard performance with 118 receiving yards and his first career touchdown, a 72-yard reception.

He was added to the reserve/COVID-19 list by the team on December 15, 2020, and he was activated on December 24. Ruggs finished his first season with 26 receptions, 452 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in 13 games played.

In seven games during the 2021 season, Ruggs had 24 receptions, 469 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.

Following accusations of drunk driving that resulted in a fatality, Ruggs was released on November 2, 2021. During his two seasons with the Raiders, he participated in 20 games, accrued 1,197 all-purpose yards, and scored four touchdowns.

What happened to Henry Ruggs?

Ruggs forcefully rear-ended another vehicle on November 2, 2021, killing 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog, according to the Las Vegas police and county prosecutors. Charges against Ruggs include risky driving and drunk driving that results in death.

Many hours before to the incident, Ruggs and his girlfriend Kiara Kilgo-Washington were seen drinking at a Topgolf facility in Las Vegas. In his lovingly called “Lizzy,” a heavily customized Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, they left around midnight.

Later, when the Corvette was approaching Tintor’s Toyota RAV4 at 156 mph (251 km/h), Ruggs attempted to panic-stop the vehicle, but he lost control and plowed into her at 120 mph (190 km/h), according to digital evidence found by investigators. After the event, Tintor’s automobile caught fire, and the coroner for Clark County determined that she and her dog died from burns.

Ruggs and Kilgo-Washington were transported to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMCSN) with non-life-threatening injuries.

When he was released from the hospital, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department checked him into the Clark County Detention Center. Ruggs appeared in court the following day, and Judge Joe M. Bonaventure set a $150,000 bond.

According to Ruggs’ attorney, the judge delayed Ruggs’ preliminary hearing from March 10 of 2022 to May 19 because more inspections were required. If proven guilty, he could spend 3 to 26 years behind bars, 2 to 20 years for the fatal DUI crash, 1-6 years for the reckless driving that caused the fatality, and up to $5,000 in fines for each.

Police reports state that Ruggs objected to taking a field sobriety test. Two hours after the incident, a blood test was done on him, and the results showed that his blood alcohol level was 0.161%—more than twice the Nevada legal limit.

Ruggs’ defense attorney, David Chesnoff, asserted that Ruggs was unable to submit to a field sobriety test because of the wounds he sustained in the crash. He further argued that the police lacked sufficient justification to get a blood sample, hence the blood test could not be recognized as evidence.

Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman rejected Chesnoff’s assertions and ruled that the blood test may be used as evidence in the lawsuit.
