Ian Pannell Career

In 1991, Ian began working for BBC Radio. He started out working at BBC Radio Leicester before joining the BBC network in 1994 and moving to London. He also contributed to World This Weekend, World at One, and Radio 1 Newsbeat until 2002. He covered domestic and international news.

Ian joined the BBC in 2002 as an international correspondent, a position he held up until 2017. Ian served as the Washington correspondent from 2002 to 2005, reporting on US internal and international policy topics.

Ian worked as a Middle Eastern correspondent from 2005 to 2008, reporting from Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq while residing in Cairo and offering his perspectives on the many continuing crises in the region. When uprisings erupted in the region in 2010, he returned to this position.

Ian covered Afghanistan and India as a South-East Asia journalist from Afghanistan from 2008 to 2011. He worked as a foreign correspondent from 2011 to 2014, mostly covering the Syrian region. While the situation turned into a horrible civil war, he reported from the country.

Ian continued to work as a foreign journalist with a concentration on the Middle East from 2014 to 2017. Ian has been a senior foreign reporter for ABC News since June 2017, located in London, England, but continues to report from all over the world.
