Janet Protasiewicz Career
She began her career teaching law as an adjunct professor. She then served as an assistant district solicitor for 26 years. She successfully argued before the Wisconsin Supreme Court and prosecuted major crimes. She has held positions on the boards of the Polish Heritage Alliance, the American Red Cross Wisconsin Chapter, the Association of Marquette University Women, and the Marquette University Law School Alumni Association. Judge Janet Protasiewicz is emphasising fairness and impartiality in her campaign to become the next state Supreme Court justice of Wisconsin with just one week left until election day. One of the two final spots that were published on Tuesday begins with the narrator saying, “Our rights and freedoms will be protected by Judge Janet Protasiewicz. She’ll be independent, neutral, and fair.”
While her opponent, former Justice Daniel Kelly, is not specifically mentioned in the same advertisement, it characterises him as an “extreme” and refers to her as a “common sense judge.”
In a discussion between the two candidates last week, the topic of impartiality and fairness came up, and Kelly attempted to portray Protasiewicz as a biased Democrat for accepting contributions from the state Democratic Party. Using Kelly’s legal representation of the state Republican Party as evidence, Protasiewicz attempted to paint Kelly as a moderate Republican.
