Jason Quigley News
Jason Quigley, a former world title contender, will face Kim Poulsen (30-6) on April 1 at Dublin’s National Stadium in his first fight back since November 2021. Since losing to WBC champion Demetrius Andrade in New Hampshire, Quigley hasn’t engaged in competitive combat.
Nevertheless, the Ballybofey native, now back at super-middleweight, plans to put all of that behind him beginning with Poulsen. At a news conference held today in Dublin, Quigley said, “I’m excited about the next step of my career.
“This is the first step on a journey I’m currently on; it’s not just something I’m crossing off a list. It’s going to be great, and I want to start the next part right now. “I’m not just returning here for fun; I’m returning here to win a world title once more.”
After a successful amateur career that saw him win three gold medals in Europe and a silver at the World Championships, Quigley began his professional career with Golden Boy Promotions in the USA. However, in the latter stages of the first chapter of his career, he returned to Ireland to work with Andy Lee.
He said, “I had to be sure I was going back for the right reasons.”I was out of the ring for a while, but I’ve taken my time and been very patient. I’m confident in my skills and the heights I can achieve, so I just want to jump right in, perform flawlessly, and keep going.
Brett McGinty (6-0), a native of Donegal, will also compete on the April 1 card. Alessandro Ruggiero will be challenged by the middleweight trained by Ricky Hatton. At Wembley Stadium on Saturday night, Stephen “The Hitman” McKenna of Monaghan (12-0 with 11 stoppage victories) squares off against Brendan Dennis of Zimbabwe (9-2).
