The Ritz London: The Cookbook is the hotel’s first cookbook to honour the cuisine served in the renowned Palm Court, storied Rivoli Bar, and Michelin-starred Ritz Restaurant, all located within the hotel’s Piccadilly location.

The recipes in John’s book are arranged according to the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Every season kicks off with a distinctive cocktail and canapé combination that features starters, entrées, and desserts.

Unique sections on topics ranging from tea to truffles are intermingled. There are simple recipes (like the well-known Cinnamon Shortbread and the well-liked Champagne Cocktail), seasonal recipes (like Pea & Wild Garlic Soup and Salt-Baked Celeriac), signature dishes (like The Ritz Venison Wellington and Crêpes Suzette), and sublime dishes (like Canard à la Presse and Truffled Cambridge Cream).

John Williams discusses his culinary philosophy, interests, and knowledge throughout the book, along with fascinating peeks into life in the renowned institution’s kitchens behind the scenes.

The Ritz has been at the centre of London society since its rotating door first opened in 1906. It has continued to accommodate royalty, nobility, and celebrities from the stage and screen inside its opulent Louis XVI-style interiors, where they have come to enjoy both its richness and amazing atmosphere. Everybody can replicate a small portion of the Ritz experience at home with the help of The Ritz London: The Cookbook, an elegant slice of London’s most iconic hotel.

John Williams MBE has been in charge of The Ritz Restaurant as the hotel’s Executive Chef since 2004. A Tyneside fisherman’s son who is now one of Britain’s most renowned chefs, his cuisine is enjoyed by kings, presidents, and other dignitaries alike.

His most recent honours include a “Special Award” at the annual Catey Awards 2017, in recognition of his dedication to the industry, and he was named AA Chef of the Year Award 2017–2018. He is also Executive Chairman of The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and a member of Le Conseil Magistral de Disciples of Auguste Escoffier.

John Williams was the first British chef to receive a Chevalier de l’Ordre du Merite Agricole (CMA) from the French government in 2005. In 2008, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II honoured him with an MBE for his contributions to the hospitality industry.

For the first time in the hotel’s history, The Ritz Restaurant gained a Michelin star under his direction in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2017.

For those fortunate enough to have dined at The Ritz, Stephanie Jackson said of the purchase, “This book is a glorious reminder of all that is fabulous.” And it’s the ideal manual for everybody who dreams of having it.

The Ritz London’s cookbook transports us all into a five-star world where it is said that “resistance is futile.” Whether you want the ultimate Negroni during cocktail hour, the ultimate Macaron at afternoon tea, classic comfort food with a twist, an extraordinary cheese course, or something spectacular to impress. It was released in time for the holidays and is specifically designed for Christmas.

On September 6, 2018, Mitchell Beazley will release The Ritz London: The Cookbook by John Williams MBE in hardback for £30.
