Kalkut Web Series Review
The dramatic tone is quickly established by the tense opening scene of the acid attack in “Kaalkoot.” Sub Inspector Ravishankar Tripathi (Vijay Varma) of Thana Sarsi, Uttar Pradesh, is about to resign from his position but is instead given the assignment to look into the acid attack case by SHO Jagdish Sahay (Gopal Dutt). This task rekindles his resolve to hold the offender accountable.
This eight-part police procedural drama, directed by Sumit Saxena and written with Arunabh Kumar, exposes the ugliness of masculinity and the insensitivity of society via the story of Parul (Shweta Tripathi Sharma), a victim of an acid assault. As the plot develops, viewers see Ravishankar change from an uninterested police officer to a motivated investigator who is entirely committed to cracking the acid attack case. As a side plot to the main acid attack case, the parallel track also covers the subplots of killing girl children before or after birth, which could have given the drama greater depth.
Following a gripping beginning, this crime thriller takes its time developing the plot but picks up steam and intrigue once it does. However, the series’ climax is satisfying while also giving it a very cinematic conclusion.
As SI Ravishankar, Vijay Varma, who most recently portrayed a serial killer in the crime drama “Dahaad,” commands the screen. He portrays a sincere police officer who is attempting to grasp the nuances of the case. Seema Biswas excels in the role of his mother, who is appealing in her quest to find her son the ideal spouse and see him established.
As the acid attack survivor Parul, Shweta Tripathi Sharma gives a stunning and compelling performance, eliciting powerful feelings with her portrayal. Because of her prosthetic artist (Dhanjay Prajapati), her marks appeared genuine. Yashpal Sharma and Gopal Dutt, who play additional police officers, help guide Ravi in the correct direction.
The narrative makes a bold attempt and conveys a powerful message. The editing, however, occasionally comes off as jerky, and some of the story’s beats appear a little out of place. The background score by Raghav & Arjun, the music tracks “Jaag Tripathi” and “Khaara Re,” as well as the poetry “Sooli,” delivered by Tigmanshu Dhulia, all contribute to the poignancy of the atmosphere. There are countless other songs, though, that seem superfluous and lengthen the series.
The series “Kaalkoot” provokes contemplation and demonstrates empathy while confronting hard truths. It maintains audience interest while serving as a sombre reminder of the social concerns it covers, notably those related to acid attacks and crimes against women.
Kalkut Web Series IMDB Rating
Reviews of the series range from unfavourable to favourable. The writing in Kaalkoot, according to The Indian Express, “makes the scant material stretch too much, and you find yourself getting impatient at the long loops,” thus it would have been much better if it had been tighter. But ‘Vijay Verma’s pitch-perfect performance makes up for the series’ flaws,’ The Quint thinks the show is a novel cop drama. Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Yashpal Sharma, Seema Biswas, and Gopal Datt provided excellent support for lead actor Vijay Varma, who was lauded by NDTV for his performance. They continued by saying that Kaalkoot deserved recognition for giving the genre a look of modernity. Kaalkoot received a strong 8.2/10 rating from 2,035 individuals on IMDb.
