Following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan on May 9, prominent fashion designer and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporter Khadija Shah has been detained in relation to the attack on Jinnah House. According to Geo News, Punjab police announced on Tuesday that Khadija Shah, the ‘main suspect’ in the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander House, had been brought into jail.
Despite saying she would submit herself to the authorities, Khadija Shah did not surrender. Other family members, including her husband, have already been detained.
Protests broke out in Pakistan after Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, was detained on May 9 in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. His party’s officials and backers attacked various military installations in addition to storming, burning, and looting the Jinnah House.
After declaring last week that the ladies responsible for the May 9 attacks on the military establishments would be detained at all costs, Punjab Interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi made this statement.
Shah was heard detailing the extreme hardship her family has been through recently in an audio tape that was circulated on social media a few days ago, according to The Express Tribune. She acknowledged being a PTI fan and taking part in the demonstration outside the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence. Khadija Shah announced in a voice message that she would turn herself in to the police on Sunday and acknowledged her error.
Shah admitted that she had posted “inappropriate” tweets in a fit of rage against the military hierarchy, but those tweets have already been removed. I’m going to hand myself in to the cops. The previous five days have been quite difficult for me, therefore I’ve made this choice, she stated.
“At midnight, they (authorities) broke into my home and kidnapped my father and husband. They allegedly beat my husband in front of our children, and they also allegedly tortured my domestic helpers.
The PTI fan added that she had taken part in numerous PTI protests the previous year and that she had broken no laws or the country’s Constitution. She also stated that she was a dual citizen and that she was attempting to contact the Embassy for assistance without providing many specifics.
Shah is the daughter of Dr. Salman Shah, a former adviser to the Punjab government under Usman Buzdar and a part of the finance team for former president Parvez Musharraf. She is also a former army officer’s granddaughter.
