Leanne Morgan said to WJCT that her career in comedy began unexpectedly when she made a woman at a party laugh so hard that she “peeped on the couch,” giving her the idea that she could succeed in stand-up comedy. She initially tried to generate some additional money by selling jewelry at the homes of her friends but unwittingly made them laugh by telling them jokes about breastfeeding and hemorrhoids.
She eventually started doing stand-up in clubs and got offers for sitcom agreements, which sadly didn’t work out. On the verge of quitting in 2018, she made one last effort and recruited social media consultants who helped a video of her and her husband making jokes about attending a Def Leppard/Journey concert go viral, turning her comedy career around.
“That blew up, and I started selling out all over the United States,” she reportedly told WJCT. After watching those videos, people would start phoning comedy clubs to request my booking.
The comic acknowledged that it took a while for her to develop a following. But I always knew they were out there, she said. Hollywood, in my opinion, ignores us, and I believe that many comedians who are cool, edgy, and all of that just ignore my audience, which I believe to be the best.
