Lise Watier News

According to Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of Concordia’s John Molson School of Business, “women who are strong leaders have four characteristics that they all share: courage, ambition, resilience, and education.” This was said during the Let’s Start Up Program graduation ceremony, which was held virtually on September 22.

The Lise Watier Foundation, Concordia Continuing Education (CCE), and a variety of neighbourhood organisations collaborated to offer the Let’s Start Up Program, a free 18-week course that supports female entrepreneurs.

Croteau told the 84 graduates, “I think you all share those qualities. “It takes so much bravery to start a business, especially during a pandemic.”

In addition to awarding programme diplomas to the participating women, the event served as the official introduction of the Concordia-Lise Watier Spreading Your Wings Award. A graduate who picks the Let’s Start Up Program’s entrepreneurial path will get a $5,000 bursary each year.

Starting with the first recipient of this year, it will be made available for ten years, up to the grant’s maximum amount of $50,000.

The Lise Watier Foundation claims that the purpose of the bursary is to help the recipient by “providing wings” to her business.

Let’s Start Up has been helping women develop self-confidence and create action plans through specialised training and one-on-one coaching since it was founded in 2017. Its ultimate objective is to assist people in achieving financial independence through the growth of their businesses, improved employment opportunities, or pursuit of higher education.

Graduate of 2020 Let’s Start Up Karine Richer was presented with the first $5,000 grant during the ceremony. Her company, Insectes Intrinsekt, specialises in the breeding of edible insects as well as the creation of organic fertiliser from the dung of these insects.

Richer remarked in her acceptance video, “I am thrilled to win the Concordia-Lise Watier Spreading Your Wings Award.

During the ceremony, Isabel Dunnigan, associate vice president for lifelong learning and executive director of CCE, praised Richer’s project. She emphasised its inventiveness and said that the bursary for this year will support a project that is specific, well-defined, and concrete. Dunnigan sent her congratulations to all of the graduates as well.
