Michaela Edenfield News
The Florida State softball catcher keeps a close eye on the infield. She can be invisible to others. She can, however, see them. And the 6-foot-1 backstop has become one of the Seminoles’ most crucial players thanks to her softball IQ, which is complemented with her exceptional plate discipline and power to all fields.
However, Edenfield also attracts attention for another reason. Not only is she a part of one of the top bats in the nation, but she also partners with ace Kathryn Sandercock to help FSU reach the Women’s College World Series, the ultimate goal in softball. She, though, enters the field with a self-assurance all her own. And a large part of that is because of her stunning cosmetics show.
Edenfield enjoys wearing makeup. She lines her face with a variety of different forms and patterns, using the medium in the manner of an impressionist. Even with the crucial catcher’s mask covering her face, her personality is evident when she sports a smokey eye.
The idea of using makeup to express oneself is not very novel. Athletes have historically used cosmetics to give themselves a little oomf before major games, even in the pressure of high-profile sports.
Take gymnastics as an illustration. Competitors frequently cover themselves in various shades of blush, foundation, and mascara, each of which is essential to an athlete’s preparation.
In that sense, Edenfield’s appearance has some historical precedent. It’s still unusual to see a ballplayer go to such lengths to make sure their face paint is flawless, particularly in a sport like softball where originality is praised – think hair ties and other decorations.
