Mikey Madison can’t help but chuckle when she compares her two most notable on-screen characters from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) and Scream (2022). The character of Amber played by Madison in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s (also known as Radio Silence) Scream is later revealed to be one of the knife-wielding killers known as Ghostface, and before the movie’s conclusion, she has been set ablaze. Madison also played Sadie in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which was based on Susan Atkins, a real-life member of the Manson family. In that movie, she wielded a knife and was finally burned alive by the end. When Amber was being cast for Scream, Madison noticed their similar qualities, although she was unaware of one of Amber’s.
“I actually didn’t know that my character was supposed to be set on fire in the end,” Madison admits to The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s how he died in the script they gave me, so I assumed that was going to be Jack Quaid’s character’s demise. As a result, when they told me, I thought, “Huh, that’s a funny coincidence.” However, that wasn’t a decision made specifically with regard to me by [Radio Silence]. Even though they discussed revising my character’s demise, we decided to leave it as is. Madison is also remembering the special Sadie audition process from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
“They essentially stated, ‘You can prepare for the audition as you like. You can perform a song or a monologue, or you can read a scene. Madison thinks back. And I thought, “This is my chance to do something fun and creative,” so I brought in a painting that I had created while acting out a certain character. I even sewed a strand of my hair into the trippy painting, making it appear as if the Manson ladies created it while high on acid. I also read a poem by Tarantino. I gave it my all because, well, why not? Quentin Tarantino is here.
Madison wants to be clear that she’s moving on from any fresh prospects involving knives and fire, as much as she loved playing two insane killers. “I believe I’m almost done with that. Madison laughs and states, “Two is enough.
