Mohammed Shami Controversies
Mohammed Haseeb, Shami’s brother, was detained in January 2016 on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and coercing officers into freeing a few males who had been detained on suspicion of cow slaughter. However, his father denied the claims and said that his family was a target due to their religion and Shami’s notoriety. Later, Haseeb was given a bail release.
In March 2018, Hasin Jahan, his wife, accused him of having extramarital encounters and tormenting her for more than two years on both a mental and physical level. On January 23, 2023, a Kolkata court mandated that he pay his estranged wife Hasin Jahan Rs. 1.30 lakh in monthly alimony, Rs. 50,000 in personal alimony, and the remainder Rs. 80,000 in maintenance.
Facts about Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami, a diligent learner in his adolescence, used to arrive at his training location an hour early. Then he would construct his own nets and work hard for hours on practise.
It’s interesting to note that Shami’s three biological brothers all had fast bowling as a boyhood dream.
Shami owes his father Tousif Ali credit for his accomplishment. He claimed that his father was the only person who saw his actual bowling talent and convinced him to give the sport a shot.
Shami’s father quickly took him to the neighbourhood cricket instructor named Badruddin Siddique after spotting his ability. When I first saw him bowling at the nets as a 15-year-old child, I thought this boy is not ordinary, Badruddin recalled in an interview. I therefore chose to train him. Due to the lack of club cricket in this country, I spent a year preparing him for the UP trials. He was really diligent, reliable, and cooperative. He did not miss a single day of training. He bowled exceptionally well during the under-19 trials, but politics prevented him from being selected. When they asked me to bring him the following year, I declined since I didn’t want Shami to miss a single year.
Shami began playing for the Dalhousie Athletic Club while he was still in Kolkata, where Debabrata Das, a former assistant secretary for the Cricket Association of Bengal, took note. He paid INR 75,000 to sign Shami to his own team, the Town Club, after being impressed by his bowling. Das claimed that Shami temporarily sought refuge in his home in 2005 because he was without a place to stay in Kolkata at the time.
