Moses Itauma News

The 18-year-old heavyweight prodigy is seen as a significant future force for the next generation of British boxing and has won gold medals for England in the Youth World and Youth European Championships.

Itauma, who played an amateur when she was barely 17 years old, turned 18 on December 29. He has made the decision to enter the professional ring right away now that he is of legal age, following in the footsteps of his light-heavyweight brother Karol Itauma (9-0, 7 KOs), who signed with Warren’s Queensberry Promotions on BT Sport.

Karol, 22, is also regarded as a very promising young athlete, but Moses has drawn attention after advancing from the junior amateur divisions with a remarkable 24-0 perfect record. He won all of his matches by knockout to earn the gold medals at the Youth World and Youth European Championships, including four first-round finishes.

Itauma only competed in one amateur match that was decided by a razor-thin margin, and that was when he was just 11 years old. The 18-year-old on his new contract: “It is exciting for me because Frank Warren has been on the circuit for many years and is the man for the job. It is going to be good and it is an exciting time.

“For me now it is about going up rapidly, truly. I honestly just maintained going to the gym since we felt like just a small family at St Mary’s ABC. I never really started boxing to win world championships. That was just enjoyable, and I soon began to take home national honours.

Itauma has already sparred with some of the top heavyweight boxers in Britain and gained from the experience. Almost two years ago, he began to feel that he had outgrown the amateur game and that it wasn’t really for him.“I don’t think I’m different, but I realised that I had great boxing skills when I first started fighting Lawrence Okolie when I was around 14 or 15 years old and was standing up on my own.

I was still competing, if not winning, during the time I was sparring with Joe Joyce, Daniel Dubois, and Anthony Joshua. I was yawning and wearing my school uniform when I sparred with Joyce and Okolie. I had just left school. The growing British heavyweight division now has a new member, and this one is heading straight to the top, according to Frank Warren, who announced the deal.
