Nima Momeni News
IT executive In connection with the stabbing death of Cash App founder Bob Lee in the early hours of April 4th in San Francisco, Nima Momeni was previously charged with murder on Friday. Momeni made his first courtroom appearance in San Francisco on Friday while wearing a hoodie and trousers with an orange jailhouse motif. At the hearing, his sister Khazar Elyassnia and her husband Dino Elyassnia, a plastic surgeon in San Francisco, were seated in the front row with two other family members.
An older woman made the heart symbol with her hands as Momeni entered the courtroom; Momeni, who was hiding her face, grinned and gestured in their direction. He remained silent other than to respond “yes, your honour” to the judge’s question about whether he was willing to waive his right to a speedy trial.
Attorney Paula Canny of Burlingame, who represents Momeni, is on vacation; her brother Robert Canny, who is also an attorney, appeared on behalf of Momeni on Friday.”The facts of what occurred, or didn’t occur, will come out over time,” he told reporters following the session.
The official arraignment, which was originally scheduled for Friday, was postponed until April 25 due to the many unanswered questions in the case, including whether the two men were acquainted. According to the charge papers, Momeni’s sister texted Lee several hours after Momeni was stabbed to show concern for his welfare.
Outside the court, Momeni’s relatives declined to speak with media. San Francisco District Attorney Brook Jenkins addressed Elyassnia’s involvement in the case during a press conference on Friday afternooon, though she made clear that it was still under investigation.
“At this time, we’re not disclosing any more than what’s in our detention motion,” Jenkins said. However, what we do have at this point — and what we’ve been willing to release to the public — is the fact that Mr Momeni has a sister who was associated with Mr. Lee and apparently is what connects the two men.
The DA added that there appeared to be some conversation between Momeni and Lee about whether or not Elyassnia had abused drugs, but that further information concerning the case’s possible involvement with illegal narcotics had not yet been made public by the authorities.
