Story of Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi
‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’ is the third collaboration between filmmaker Srinivas Avasarala and actor Naga Shaurya. Their prior releases – ‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’ and ‘Jo Achyuthananda’ – were hit-or-miss. Because of the catchy, highly native title and advertising, their third collaboration had high hopes. Malvika Nair is also working on her second film with Naga Shaurya, following Nandini Reddy’s Kalyana Vaibhogame.
‘Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi’ depicts the love story of Sanjay (Naga Sahurya) and Anupama (Malvika Nair) over ten years in an episodic structure, with the narrative constantly jumping forward and back. They first meet as juniors and second-year seniors in an engineering institution. Though a senior by one year, Anupama develops a fancy to Sanjay quickly due to his helping nature and disarming manner. They gradually become close friends, forming a group with other friends like Valentine Ravi, and Keerthi. Following this bonding, the plot changes to the United Kingdom, where they are in their final years of study.
Sanjay and Anupama live near each other with friends, then move into the same flat as live-in partners, gradually becoming a couple awaiting the culmination of their relationship. Other interests come and go – Anupama rejects the proposals of Srinivas Avasarala’s character Giri, claiming that her relationship with Sanjay is more promising. She subsequently rejects another attempt to pair her with a childhood friend when they travel to her sister’s wedding. As everything seems heavenly in the lovers’ household, she worries that she has breast cancer. As she aspires to pass this life test with Sanjay’s help, she observes him slip apart for unclear reasons.
