Puka Nacua News

Along with Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson, the Los Angeles Rams will need someone to step up offensively this season, and Touchdown Wire’s Jarrett Bailey thinks it will be rookie Puka Nacua. Nacua was the wide receiver when picking an NFL player at each position who could have a big year in 2023.

By all accounts, the Rams can make the former BYU star their discount Deebo Samuel. While the rest of the roster may be filled with LinkedIn applicants, Nacua has a chance to shine in an offense that, outside of Kupp, lacks star power.

Nacua, a BYU wide receiver, was selected by the Rams in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft because of his flexibility and capacity for gaining yards after the catch. In his final two collegiate seasons, Nacua accumulated 1,430 receiving yards, 357 rushing yards, and 16 combined touchdowns (11 receiving, 5 rushing).

The Rams have given Nacua many significant practice opportunities since the beginning of OTAs and through training camp, and he has persisted in impressing the coaching staff. Only Demarcus Robinson, Tutu Atwell, Ben Skowronek, and Tyler Johnson are vying for the third wideout slot on the roster, behind Kupp and Jefferson.

In contested-catch scenarios, the rookie wideout demonstrated his strong handwork, which may lead to him receiving more work as a traditional receiver as opposed to just a gadget guy. Nacua hasn’t yet been well-known, but he has a chance to do so as a rookie on a Rams offense that is in need of playmakers.
