Tony Danker, the CBI’s director-general, has been removed and his replacement, Rain Newton-Smith, has been announced. Additionally, “pending further investigation into a number of ongoing allegations,” three other CBI workers have been placed on administrative leave.
The group is “liaising with the police” and has stated that it intends to fully cooperate with any police inquiries, the statement continued. Following revelations in The Guardian, Mr Danker resigned last month while an inquiry was being conducted into charges of misbehaviour that have since spread to other members of the corporate lobby organisation. He has expressed regret and indicated that his actions were “completely unintentional.”
Numerous businesses have reviewed their membership as a result of the incident, and at least two government ministries have ceased involvement.
Before joining Barclays as managing director, of strategy and policy, sustainability and ESG, Ms Newton-Smith was the CBI’s top economist.
The purpose of today’s declaration is to put an end to rumours that the CBI might not survive the crisis. According to the CBI, Tony Danker was fired immediately after an independent investigation into specific allegations of workplace misconduct against him.
