Reza Adib News

After receiving criticism for bringing her lover to a face-to-face meeting with International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials over the weekend, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has apologized numerous times.

The Queensland leader and her traveling companion Reza Adib arrived in Sydney on Sunday to take part in the hour-long meeting between organizers and IOC members.

Top Olympic leaders including IOC President Thomas Bach, outgoing and incoming presidents of the Australian Olympic Committee John Coates and Ian Chesterman, as well as Brisbane’s Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, were present at the event.

But she astonished everyone when her partner showed up at the Sofitel Hotel in Harbour City with a pair of beige chino pants and a blue checkered suit on. At a press conference on Tuesday, Ms. Palaszczuk acknowledged that she should not have invited her boyfriend to the event due to a “mistake” she had made.

She told reporters, “I appreciate there have been comments raised regarding this catch-up. “I am aware that I was wrong. I’m sorry, I should not have brought my girlfriend to that meeting. As I said, it was just a casual meet-up; there was never any purpose to cause anyone any harm.

When questioned by journalists about inviting Dr. Adib, she maintained that it was a “mistake” to have done so. Then Ms. Palaszczuk disclosed what she had discussed at the “informal catch-up” in the boardroom of the opulent hotel.

“Let me explain what I discussed. I spoke about topics about which I had already spoken in public, thus I discussed the worldwide broadcast center. The Cross River train project and the OCOG board (Organising Committee Board) held their first meetings, she added. Dr. Adib will attend further events, but the Queensland leader emphasized that he won’t be present for any more meetings pertaining to the Olympic Games. She also expressed her gratitude to her boyfriend for helping her balance running the Sunshine State with their relationship.

I am extremely fortunate and blessed to have someone support my work, Ms. Palaszczuk remarked. “Running this state is a great responsibility. While he won’t attend any meetings or catch-ups, my partner will travel with me to various events.

Jarrod Bleijie, the deputy leader of the opposition, criticized Ms. Palaszczuk after seeing pictures showing Dr. Adib present.

In response to a question regarding Mr. Abid’s attendance, he remarked in a press conference on Monday morning, “I’ve just got to say, it’s just a bit weird, the whole thing is weird. Mr. Bleijie said that given the significance of the occasion, it was “just not appropriate” for her boyfriend to attend the first face-to-face encounter.

“I’ve seen a photo of them at the table, there were minutes, there were papers, it was a properly-prepared, formal meeting with very important people, and the Premier’s boyfriend was at the table,” he claimed. “I’m just wondering why the Premier’s lover was given a seat at the table after looking at it.
