Roy Mcgrath News
In a statement to 11 News on Monday night, Murtha said, “The loss of Roy’s life is a terrible tragedy, and I believe it’s vital for me to say.
Once McGrath, 53, of Naples, Florida, failed to show up on March 13 in federal court in Baltimore on corruption allegations, he became the target of a countrywide manhunt. McGrath was discovered by officials in the Knoxville, Tennessee, region, according to reports from the FBI Baltimore Office and the U.S. Marshals Service earlier on Monday night.
It was not immediately known if McGrath’s injury resulted from self-inflicted gunfire or from a shootout with FBI officers. In a statement, the FBI claimed it is “reviewing a shooting involving agents that took place on April 3 at around 6:30 o’clock.
Roy McGrath, the subject of the arrest, was hurt during it and sent to the hospital. All shooting occurrences involving agents or task force members are taken seriously by the FBI. The FBI’s Inspection Division is looking into the shooting event in accordance with FBI regulation.”
Federal prosecutors alleged that McGrath deceived administrators at the Maryland Environmental Service, where he held the position of executive director, by insinuating that former governor Larry Hogan approved of paying him $233,648 in severance in exchange for becoming Hogan’s chief of staff.
After only 11 weeks on the role as chief of staff, McGrath resigned in August 2020 after Hogan denied authorising the severance. Also, he was charged with fraud and theft in relation to expenditures totaling about $170,000. Rewards of up to $20,000 were offered by the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service for information that resulted in his capture.
Oct. 5, 2021, saw the indictment of McGrath. He entered a not-guilty plea to each accusation, and after being freed on that condition, he was put on trial. On June 28, 2022, a superseding indictment accused McGrath of erasing, changing, or fabricating documents related to federal investigations. Monday evening, Hogan issued a statement that read: “Yumi (Hogan) and I are heartbroken over this awful circumstance. For Mr McGrath’s family and other close ones, we are praying.”
