Ruby Bhogal, a Bake Off contestant, acknowledged that she once nearly killed her mother by faking to be pregnant. When she found out she had been chosen for the 2018 season of the show, she had intended to surprise her mother.
But when her sister jokingly said she was expecting, everything went awry. “The youngsters duped me. They seated me and said they needed to talk to me. Then they announced Ruby was expecting,” Kelly recalls.
Kelly recalls her reaction: “I simply sat there, I couldn’t believe it. Ruby had felt it would be a ‘wonderful thing. Please say something – you should be proud, you’re going to be a gran, her sister was hamming it up and saying. Ruby explains that the woman was just thinking, “Who got her pregnant?! “
Kelly admitted that the thought of telling her spouse caused her the most anxiety. She also experienced aches in her chest and arm. You see, I’ve had cardiac issues. They thus informed me the truth when that occurred, she continues.
Ruby acknowledges that the prank wasn’t the ideal choice given that she had recently experienced some medical challenges, but she was happy to learn about it.
As Ruby arrives at our photo shoot with not one, not two, but four bags of handmade cookies, they make their candid confession. Maltesers and nuts are first, followed by cranberries and white chocolate. I apologise if they’re bad, but they’re only a day old,” she laughs.
They’re obviously a long way from that. They are excellent, and we eat all of them.She’s here to celebrate Mother’s Day with her diminutive mother Kelly, a doctor (Ruby calls her “Kels”), and in typical mother fashion, she shows up laden with bags of food that she’s prepared for Ruby’s tea. She explains, “I brought her bits to heat up because I knew we’d have a busy day.”
Trainers, an old computer mouse (for “just in case she needs it”), and baby pictures are also included in the bags of riches. Kels then spends the rest of the day snapping pictures with her phone while admiring her kid in front of the camera. She does not want to take centre stage or be in the photos, though.
Ruby, of course, gained notoriety after winning the nation’s hearts with her delectable baked goods (and charming visage) in the Great British Bake Off final last year. In order to pass the time till she finished her degree in building and design, she only started baking 18 months before she entered.
