Suzie Fletcher’s Latest News
The Repair Shop is back on BBC One, and Jay Blades and the crew are aiming to make some new viewers happy. A 65-year-old leather document case is brought in by Chippenham resident Malcolm Jordan for Suzie Fletcher to restore. Despite having a rocky start, Suzie joined the show at the beginning of season two and has never looked back.
Five years before to her debut on the show, in 2013, she experienced the death of her spouse, which she called as one of the biggest shocks she had ever experienced. After coming to the US to work as a master saddler in Illinois, Suzie first met her husband in Colorado.
She was only expected to spend two years in the US, but she ended up residing there for 22 years before returning to the UK. After a struggle with cancer that began while they were cohabitating in the US, her husband passed away.
“My family were amazing, but I was quite aware that they didn’t need to be unduly concerned,” she said on the Relatively podcast. “I did have a pretty good support group in my pals in the States as well. “I think I tried to keep them from learning too much, especially because my mother was still living and she would worry terribly if she thought I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“To be quite honest, when we received that news, I realised that my priority was to give my husband whatever he wanted, regardless of how challenging that might seem. I would make an effort to fulfil his wish if he wanted to travel to the moon. She was crushed by his passing, but she utilised The Repair Shop as a method to move on with her life.
She talked about how the show had gotten her through many difficult times and had even served as a motivation for her to sign up for the course. She added: “Steve looked like he was having a great time every time he called, so I jokingly said, ‘If they need anyone to do leather, I’m your gal.'”
