At a music event in Mumbai’s Chembur on Monday night, singer Sonu Nigam and his team allegedly suffered abuse at the hands of an MLA’s son. Based on Nigam’s accusation, the police on Tuesday filed an FIR and arrested Swapnil Prakash Phaterpekar.

According to authorities, he has been charged with violating Indian Criminal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 337 (causing harm by conduct endangering life or personal safety of others).
The BJP wasted no time in launching a salvo against former Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray, calling the few parliamentarians who were still behind him a “army of gangsters” (gundon ki sena).
Shehzad Poonawala, a BJP spokesperson, dared Uddhav Thackeray to speak up and denounce the incident as the situation erupted.

Sonu Nigam allegedly complained that as he and his colleagues were exiting the stage following the performance, a man—later identified as Swapnil Phaterpekar—came from behind and grabbed hold of the singer.
Hari Prakash, a colleague of Nigam’s, approached the accused and tried to dissuade him. But, according to the allegation, the accused shoved Prakash, causing him to fall from the stage, a police official said. When Rabbani Khan, another Nigam coworker, stepped forward to assist him, there was a fight and Khan also fell off the stage.
