Tami Bobo Wikipedia, Husband, Daughter, Horse, Net Worth – Bobo acknowledges she didn’t have much experience with Thoroughbreds prior to owning Simplification, the 3-year-old bay colt from Florida that won the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes in January and secured his Derby spot. Although Bobo grew up in Ocala, Florida, riding horses from the age of two and showcasing them across the nation, his foray into horse racing only began 12 years ago.

However, Bobo has worked in the equine industry since she was a young adult. When she gave birth to her only child, she was just 17 years old. To make finances meet, she continued to display and ride Arabian horses for a local Ocala farm.
Bobo would go to the neighbourhood auction barn and start purchasing Quarter Horses that most people didn’t want when she was able to save money. These “rejects” were regarded as “problem horses” or unbroken or unfit for riding equines. She would resell them after training them, typically making a tiny profit.
Before the Kentucky Derby in 2022, Bobo told NBC Sports that “(horses) are like humans: We’re not perfect and neither are they. “You learn to live with the flaw, and if you think that particular horse can outperform that flaw, give that horse a chance.
“That horse technically is unaware of the little curvature in its front legs. A memo wasn’t sent to it. That horse lives his life on the four legs that God gave him because he is aware of this. Therefore, if you don’t make it difficult for an animal, they’re likely to pass through it.
Bobo was able to save money with each resale and eventually purchase better horses as time went on. She was able to enter the more upscale Quarter Horse market by the time she was in her late 20s, and she finally displayed her horses at events like the Quarter Horse Congress.
The American Quarter Horse Congress, the largest single-breed horse show in the world with more than 25,000 entries, served as Bobo’s starting point as she pursued her entrepreneurial ambition and combined her expertise in horses with web programming. As he built equine information hubs for nearby businesses, Bobo started buying and selling domain names with equestrian themes.
Bobo was able to go from quarter horses to thoroughbreds in 2010 thanks to such earnings. Take Charge Indy, a well-bred colt sired by A.P. Indy, the 1992 American Horse of the Year, and successful broodmare Take Charge Lady, whose Grade 1 victories included the Ashland Stakes and Spinster Stakes, proved to be her first Thoroughbred’s lucky charm.
Take Charge Indy was discovered by Bobo at the Keeneland September 2010 Yearling Sale, where he was unable to fetch the $80,000 reserve price because of a conformation problem and a short stride. Bobo jumped at the chance to buy the colt privately because he thought the colt may improve with time.
Take Charge Indy, trained by Breeders’ Cup champion Patrick Byrne, prevailed in the Grade 1 Florida Derby by a length with Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel aboard. The colt qualified for the 2012 Kentucky Derby thanks to its victory, but Take Charge Indy disappointed at Churchill Downs by placing 19th (out of 20) by 50 lengths.
