The survivor of Kyle Rittenhouse’s shooting during a rally in Wisconsin in 2020, which claimed the lives of two others, has filed a covert petition to change his identity due to what he now claims is ongoing harassment stemming from the incident. The Milwaukee County Clerk of Circuit Court should look into how the sealed petition was leaked to a right-wing news outlet this week, according to Gaige Grosskreutz.
After the petition went public, Grosskreutz, a 29-year-old from West Allis, made a statement. In the two years following being wounded in the arm during a protest in Kenosha, it was claimed that he had received death threats and that he was requesting the name change to protect himself and his family.
The statement read, “But the main story here isn’t that I’m trying to change my identity; it’s that a procedure that’s designed to cloak and protect persons in danger was subverted and sealed information was exposed to the right wing media within hours of my filing.”
Kimberley Motley, the solicitor for Grosskreutz, has asked for information regarding who saw the petition on Tuesday, the day it was submitted to the clerk.
According to the Journal Sentinel, Clerk of Courts George Christenson stated he has started investigating into the situation. Rittenhouse fatally shot two additional individuals on August 25, 2020, using an AR-15-style rifle during a tumultuous demonstration that followed the police death of Jacob Blake Jr. When Rittenhouse claimed he shot all three guys in self-defence, the jury cleared him of all counts.
The Kenosha County Eye, whose editor, Kevin Mathewson, was personally involved in the protest, broke the news of the secret name change petition. Former Kenosha City Council member Mathewson issued a plea for armed citizens to arrive and protect the city in a post to The Kenosha Guard’s Facebook page.
