Thomas Cashman News
When Thomas Cashman was convicted guilty of killing Olivia Pratt-Korbel, his girlfriend was holding her head in her hands.
The nine-year-old girl was killed in her own home on Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot on the evening of August 22 of last year. Cashman was unanimously found guilty of the crime. On 30 March, drug dealer Cashman of Grenadier Drive, West Derby, was unanimously determined to have committed one of the most heinous crimes in Merseyside’s recorded history.
Moreover, Cashman was found guilty of two counts of gun possession with the intent to endanger life, wounding Cheryl Korbel with the intent to cause her great bodily harm, and attempting to murder Joseph Nee.
His girlfriend, Kayleeanne Sweeney, buried her head in her hands as the jury foreman announced the decision, and his family wept after hearing it. Cashman turned to face his family and shook his head while wiping tears from his eyes.
The family was overheard yelling, cursing, and demanding Cashman’s innocence as they exited the courtroom. While being escorted out of the courthouse by police officers and court security, his sister could be heard shouting that others were to blame for the senseless murder.
After the family left the building, they were seen giving the thumbs-up to the photographers. Ms Sweeney was also spotted donning a pink coat in Olivia’s honour.
A three-and-a-half-week trial at Manchester Crown Court previously revealed that Cashman “laid in wait” for Nee while carrying two loaded weapons while his intended victim watched a football game between Liverpool FC and Manchester United on television at his buddy Timmy Naylor’s home on Finch Lane. The shooter approached him and Paul Abraham from behind as they were leaving the address and started shooting at them with a self-loading Glock-style weapon.
Two loud fringe could be heard, and Mr Abraham could be seen fleeing for his life in a terrifying piece of CCTV footage. At this point, convicted burglar and drug dealer Nee was shot in the belly, and as a result of his wounds, he fell to the ground.
Nevertheless, the pistol malfunctioned, allowing Nee to flee. Yet Cashman kept up his “ruthless pursuit” as he made his way to the Korbels’ house.
Afraid of the gunfire outside, 46-year-old Cheryl stepped outside to check but quickly ran back inside when she saw Nee sprinting away from Cashman, who was all in black and had his face covered. She then struggled with the shooter’s intended victim to hold her front door shut and prevent him from entering the house, but she was unable to do so since it had been left on the latch so that the neighbours might come in for a cup of tea.
