Tony Danker Latest News

Following charges of wrongdoing, the recently ousted president of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) claims his “reputation has been totally destroyed.” After police opened an inquiry into the claims, the business group fired Tony Danker on April 11 and suspended three other employees.

The CBI board stated that Mr. Danker’s actions “fell short” of what was expected of him and that there were “serious failings” in the way the organisation operated.

In his first interview since being fired, Mr Danker told the BBC that his reputation had been “totally trashed” as a result of being misrepresented and exploited as the “fall guy” in various allegations, including rape. According to Brian McBride, president of CBI, Mr. Danker’s firing was done on solid legal grounds.

Speaking to the BBC’s Today show, Mr. McBride referred to his account of the events as “selective” and said the former CBI director general was allowed to seek “redress” if he felt unfairly treated.

According to Mr. Danker, his termination letter listed four reasons for his dismissal: planning a private karaoke party for 15, viewing CBI employees’ Instagram accounts, messaging staff members about things unrelated to work, and inviting junior staff to meals or one-on-one meetings.

However, other allegations—including drug usage and serious sexual assault—came to light only a few weeks after the CBI said it was investigating several charges of wrongdoing against him.

While Mr. Danker expressed regret for having “very uncomfortable” certain employees, the former CBI leader maintained his quick firing was unjustified because he had “never used sexually suggestive language with people” while working for the organisation. “There was an incident where someone complained about verbal contact that was unwanted,” he stated.

“There was no physical touch at any time. I’ve never been touched physically. I’ve never expressed myself sexually. I’ve never made advances to anyone.

Additionally, he acknowledged texting about 200 specific corporate employees, but argued that this was done in an effort to foster “rapport” with coworkers who conducted their business remotely during and after the COVID lockdown.

Since Mr. Danker was accused of having unwelcome contact with a CBI employee last month, the trade organisation has been rocked by claims of a hostile workplace atmosphere. According to an article at the time in The Guardian, she viewed the interaction as sexual harassment. Mr. Danker disputes the charge.

Regarding the charges, Mr. Danker wrote in a tweet on April 11: “I acknowledge the severe publicity the CBI has endured following the revelations of terrible events that took place before my tenure in office.

“Last week, I only just learned about them, and I was horrified. Even so, I was taken aback to find this morning that I had been fired from the CBI rather than being invited to present my case as was initially confirmed.
